A Pride - Volunteer FAQ

  • What are the hours of operation?
    • 6am – 1:00pm = Site set up, vendor load in, sound check, etc.
    • 1:00pm-8:00pm = PrideFest
    • 8:00 pm- Midnight = Site teardown, vendor load out, clean up, etc.
  • How long is my shift?
    • 3 or 4 hours.
  • When do shifts start?
    • Every 30 minutes
  • May I sign up for more than one shift or in more than one area?
    • Yes!  We really appreciate you donating that much time and energy!
  • What do I wear?
    • Comfortable shoes and socks are a must!  You’ll be on your feet and moving around a lot.  Sunscreen and/or a hat may come in handy, as we’ll be outside the entire time.  We’re going to provide you with a PRIDE t-shirt when you arrive, so everyone will know you’re donating your time to help make this event possible.  Work gloves might come in handy if you’re a stagehand or part of site set-up or teardown.
  • Can I bring a backpack for my stuff?
    • Absolutely! However, if you bring a backpack, it will be inspected by RMC and you are responsible for it. There are no storage areas at the event.
  • Can I use my mobile device on the island?
    • Yes. Brown’s Island has free Wi-Fi and you may need your phone to call for assistance in your area.  But we do ask that you not use your phone for personal business while you are volunteering.  Also, there is no charging station, so make sure to have your device charged completely before you get to the island.
  • Where do I park?
    • The Federal Reserve is opening their covered, secure parking deck for the event.  It is a $5 charge per car and you must have your volunteer parking pass displayed from your mirror while you’re volunteering.  In the event RMC needs to find the owner of a vehicle, this helps narrow the choices.  Also, we are counting how many volunteers utilize the deck.
    • Free parking is available on 5th St and Tredegar past the American Civil War Center.  Be aware of No Parking signs, as your vehicle will be towed!
  • I have a handicapped license plate/placard.  Where do I park?
    • There are three handicap parking spots on the island as you cross the vehicular bridge.  IF those spots are taken, you will need to have someone drop you off at that same spot, and take the vehicle off the island to park on street or in the deck.
  • I ride a bike/skateboard.  Can I use that to get to the island?
    • These items are not allowed during the festival due to safety reasons.
  • Can I bring my dog?
    • No.  As a volunteer, you need to be focused and readily available.
  • Where do I go when I get to the island?
    • Volunteer Check In is located at the 7th Street pedestrian bridge.  That bridge is located between the Federal Reserve and Mead Westvaco (MWV).
  • What about ______?
    • You can always go back to Volunteer Check In and they can probably answer your question and/or direct you to a team leader.
  • Should I bring something to drink and eat?
    • We will have bottled water for volunteers and food vendors on site.
  • What happens if it rains?
    • The PrideFest goes on rain or shine!
  • Where are the bathrooms?
    • Portalets are located on the western part of the island by the helipad.
  • There are photographers taking pictures.  I’m not so sure I like that.
    • By participating, you are giving your permission to be photographed as part of the event.
  • What if I need EMS?
    • There will be an EMS unit on site.  Their location will be on your map.  Stop by and say hi to the team that’s going to take care of us while we’re there.
