Snipes.  Daniel is currently a doctoral student at Virginia Commonwealth University, studying Health Psychology.  His ultimate goal is to become a university professor, where he will be able to conduct research  on health disparities in LGBT communities.  His personal research goals are to understand factors that can improve LGBT sexual health, as well as understanding sexual disparities like HPV and HIV infection among LGBT individuals.  Daniel is currently aiding his faculty advisor with a research project that assesses the sexual behavior, internalized transphobia, and drug abuse of transgender individuals.  The research is important because there is surprising little research on interventions for transgender individuals, as they tend to be ignored even in research that studies gay and lesbian community issues.

VA Pride’s Board of Directors is proud to assist members of the Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgender and Transsexual community and their family, friends and supporters with the expenses of post high school education. In 2012, scholarships will be awarded in allotments up to $500.  There will be scholarships awarded for both the spring and fall semesters.  For consideration, complete and return this application no later than midnight EST, June 30th, 2012.

A few of the highlights:
- Our Facebook page will include a complete list of registered vendors and will be updated regularly, so register early!
- There are 3 types of tickets this year – Early, Regular and Late.  As well as a discount if you provide your own tent.
- PrideFest has been extended to 1pm to 8pm for increased exposure.

But, it’s especially for all you straight people out there! Whether you’re already an active supporter, want to show your support for the first time, or hadn’t given equality a lot of thought before and now want to learn more, we are here to help you get informed about the issues and get involved, at a pace that works for you.

You’ll find a lot of useful information throughout this site—information that’ll engage you, surprise you and move you. You will also find a bunch of ways to get involved and show your support and encourage your straight peers to show theirs as well.

For all you gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender folks—we need and want you here, too! Because this site is also for you. Not only will you learn new things that might surprise and interest you, you’ll also find a lot of useful tools and resources that will help you encourage the straight people in your life to give a damn.
